Chamber meets with Governance member Franklin,
              Lake Stevens Journal, 2/26/00

A grassroots organization, Friends for Lake Stevens, has been formed to educate the public about the issues surrounding annexation.

Sally O'Leary spoke on behalf of the Friends, saying, "We are already one community.  We share shopping, schools and churches.  Because we already are one community, we should stay one community with one local government."

Friends for Lake Stevens has identified five main benefits of joining all of Lake Stevens under one government:

keeping tax dollars in the local area
uniting what is already one community in everything but name
managing growth with local control
having more local government representation
better access to police services

Single Community is Best

Letters to the Editor, Lake Stevens Journal 2/9/00

" If we want full control over our own destiny, we must unite behind a single city     government.  The Friends of Lake Stevens is a newly forming, positive organizations whose purpose is to unite our community.  Unresolved issues will best be resolved when we act together as a single community."

Joyce Bell, Lake Stevens
